The above team have proposed a series of Research and Evaluation Community Cafés seeking to address a mutual challenge faced by both the University of Edinburgh and Scottish community organisations.
Researchers and students require pathways into communities for collaborative research and joint funding bids, while third-sector organisations need support with data skills, evidence of impact, and access to the University for sustainable relationship building. The community café model, supported by the Edinburgh Futures Institute (EFI), provides a platform not just as a physical space but as a transdisciplinary environment.
The proposed Research and Evaluation Community Café will complement existing infrastructure by offering community organisations access to the University of Edinburgh’s methodological expertise in an informal, accessible setting.
The Café will focus on helping organisations think through specific research and evaluation questions, explore appropriate methodological approaches, and identify pathways to further support, including referral to existing sector resources where appropriate.
