Kinship care in a digital world

Exploring kinship families in an increasingly digital world

In collaboration with the Association for Fostering, Kinship & Adoption Scotland (AFKA), Dr Autumn Roesch-Marsh  from the University of Edinburgh has undertaken research analysing issues affecting kinship families in Scotland.

Kinship care is when a child lives full-time or most of the time with a relative or friend who is not their parent, and is the most common form of out-of-home care for looked after children in Scotland.

This project explores how the increasing use of digital technologies and social media in society presents opportunities and challenges for children, young people, and their families. AFKA Scotland and the University of Edinburgh undertook a study to explore how the digital world impacts on kinship carers and the challenges they face in caring for children and young people.
